Windows 11

The Windows 11 operating system was announced today. Windows has always been a leader in the PC market, but Windows 11 will take Windows to the next level with new features and functionality that is sure to please any Windows user. Let’s take a look at what you can expect from Windows 11 when it rolls out!

Windows 11 Desktop and Start Menu

Visual Changes

Let’s start with the most prominent changes, the aesthetics. Windows 11 will introduce a revamped design, windows will have rounded corners, and the new start menu along with the other icons are centered on the taskbar. Of course, if that isn’t your look the positioning will be adjustable.

A new expandable widget panel can be opened from the side to provide information like the weather and news which will tailor to your interests over time. One of the strongest features of the Windows user-interface, automatically resized windows, has been further refined and windows will now remember the layout of your apps on a monitor, even if it gets disconnected. Simply reconnect the monitor and the windows will appear exactly where they were.

Performance Updates

Under the hood, there aren’t too many changes, but few that are coming are very exciting. At the forefront is the operating system’s performance. On paper, Windows 11 will be more efficient than Windows 10 which means less strain on your processor and more allocation for the other apps you use.

The new operating system will also be more secure as Windows Defender is baked in and Windows SmartScreen now comes with Windows S mode. Windows Update should download faster too, up to 50% quicker than what we’re used to today which means less downtime waiting for updates that have been downloaded from the cloud but haven’t yet installed themselves on your computer.

New Features

Windows 11 offers many new ways people can connect across devices, making it easy for family members to share moments more seamlessly. Microsoft Teams is becoming a more integral part of the Windows experience allowing for everyday chat and video calling. Windows Story Remix is another neat new feature on the operating system that can take your photos and videos and turn them into memories through an immersive storytelling experience with soundtracks, titles, transitions effects all in one place.

Microsoft is also partnering with Amazon to allow you to directly download and run Android Apps that are on the Amazon App Store. This is great for anyone that uses these types of apps which will allow them to use their favorite apps or play their favorite games directly on their computer or Windows powered device.

What Will It Cost to Upgrade to Windows 11

Windows 11 will be a free upgrade that will roll out to Windows 10 users before the holiday season. There is a lot of value in this upgrade and because it isn’t very different from the Windows 10 architecture, most if not all of your existing programs should work without issues. Learn more about what Windows 11 will have to offer on Microsoft’s site. In the meantime though, you can read some of our guides to optimizing your laptop or computer while you wait for Windows 11 to hit the store.
